patut naik bas pukul 2:40pm, tapi sekarang dah pukul 4:15pm bus tak sampai lagi. Bila tanya bagi alasan jem, eh bodoh ingat aku tak reti check maps ke sama ada jalan tu jem ke tak? Dah la kena tunggu kat bas stop tepi jalan panas2. Memang company ni tak mampu nak sewa tempat kat terminal sungai nibong ke? First and last beli tiket ni. Beli pun terpaksa tinggal ni je ada. Untuk korang yang plan naik bas ni, baik pilih bas lain dulu. Buang duit, tunggu 2-3 jam, masalah betul la company ni.

***Review April 2025*** This is for the route of Penang to Koh Lipe, Thailand.

I arrived at the front of the New Asian Travel office in Georgetown at 4:45am, and we left on time at 5:00am as advertised. The van reached the Malaysia/Thailand border around 7:45am, and after security and immigration checks, we were through into Thailand by 8:00am (do note Thailand is 1 hour behind Penang so it's actually 7:00am in Thailand once you cross the border).

From the border, we are taken into the city center of Hat Yai, where we change vans and the Thai tour operators take over from here. The van change was at a random place opposite a restaurant named "Muslimah Cafe Hatyai" (see my photo).

Once in the new van, we were sitting around for an hour doing nothing. The driver said he was waiting for 2 more passengers to show up. Well eventually, they did show up and we were on our way to 'Pak Bara pier' (it's now 9:30am local Thai time). It about a 2 hour drive from Hat Yai city to the pier.

We arrived at Pak Bara pier at 11:15am, and we got on the speedboat by 11:20am. Once on the speedboat, we departed right away! The name of the Thai speedboat company was "Taweesub Koh Lipe." Finally, we arrived at Koh Lipe island (Pattaya Beach) at 12:45pm Thai time.

So, the total time elapsed from the moment we left Georgetown, Penang to stepping foot on Koh Lipe island was 8 hours, 45 minutes. Overall, it was a smooth trip. 👍

We went to New Asian Travel office at Prangin Mall, Komtar, Georgetown, Penang. The office looks brand new. An old lady greeted us and spoke in Chinese and a little understood English language. Her name is Ms Liong. She ws nice and we booked a van for 6 to Hat Yai. (Just write down ur destination and timing then give to the her). She even gave us a discount. The Van picked up at Hotel and drop us off at Hat Yai Hotel. The van is on time and clean. The Driver ws kind and friendly.

Bought to tickets to Hat Yai with hotel pickup, they never showed up. We tried to call the agency, all numbers are wrong and the hp number I asked to the old lady that she wrote on the name card was an unrelated hospital employee. So obviously they don't want to be contactable at all. We rushed to their office and the old lady was clueless. Luckily another one understood the situation and sent us to Butterworth to catch the van waiting for us an hour with their passengers. Bottom line, don't pay in advance, don't ask for hotel pick up. Just be there at the bus departure point and pray to have a seat. The office is totally useless and the lady clueless.
Now the good point was the van, comfortable, the driver was nice and the trip was very good. Immigration easy. And drop off in front our hotel arrived in Hat Yai.

⚠️ Important information if you booked a trip to KOH TAO ⚠️

THE SCHEDULES ARE WRONG! In 12Go shows that you would arrive the same day at 22:00hrs, but it’s wrong. You will have to wait at least 6 hours on the ferry station at Surat Thani for the night ferry, arriving at Koh Tao in the early morning (4 am aprox).

It seems it is 12Go’s fault, as they are putting wrong the dates in the website. The company New Asian Travel was very polite and helped us with everything, that’s why I’m giving the 5 stars.

Wir hatten 2 Busse und eine Fähre nach Ko samui von Georgetown Penang aus.

1. Reisebüro:
- Sieht ein wenig unorganisiert aus
+ Preis war in Ordnunh

1. Bus:
+ Freundlicher Fahrer
+ Alter aber sauberer Minibus
+ Bus war pünktlich um 5 Uhr morgens
+ Grenzübertritt war in Ordnung.
- Trotzdem war eine Kakerlake im Minivan

2. Bus:
+ kam pünktlich in Hat Yai an
+ Mirarbeiter sind engagiert
- enger Bus
- alter Bus
- Der Bus ist gleichzeitig ein Paketzentrum
- Hunderte Pakete werden auf dem Weg eingesammelt und ausgeteilt
- Hier sind ohne Verkehr mindestens 3 Stunden längere Reise einzuplanen
- Es gab nur eine Klopause. Den Rest der Zeit wird genutzt um die Pakete zu verteilen
- Von den 3 Fahrern sind 2 nur für die Pakete zuständig
- Immerhin beeilen sich die Jungs mit den Paketen
- Während der Fahrt werden größere Umwege in Städte gemacht, um die Pakete einzusammeln und auszuliefern
- Aufgrund der Beladung und alter Bereifung, ist ein Reifen geplatzt. Dieser wurde schnell ausgetauscht.

Leider hatten wir keine andere Möglichkeit einen anderen Bus zu bekommen, da diese bereits ausverkauft waren. Ich empfehle euch bei einer anderen Agentur zu buchen. Somit noch 2 ehrliche Sterne für die Freundlichkeit. Immerhin wurden wir nicht abgezogen, das ist ja auch schon mal was.

Don’t choose New Asian! I originally booked a bus with another company leaving Butterworth at 2:30 PM on December 31 to go to Hatyai. But two days before departure, I thought I should leave earlier, so I booked another ticket with New Asian for a minivan at 12:05 PM. I didn’t cancel my original booking. However, I ended up waiting from noon until after 3 PM to finally get on the minivan.

The lady at the New Asian office didn’t seriously try to solve the problem. She kept giving the excuse that the driver was stuck in traffic for those three hours. When I finally got on the minivan, I realized the service wasn’t even provided by New Asian—it was run by a private Thai driver. I was the only passenger who bought a ticket through New Asian, and everyone else boarded after 2 PM. Basically, the so-called 12:05 PM ride didn’t even exist.

If you don’t want to waste your whole afternoon waiting and risk messing up the rest of your schedule, definitely avoid New Asian!

千万不要选择 New Asian！我原本订了另一家公司从 Butterworth 出发，12 月 31 日下午 2:30 开往合艾的大巴车。但在出发前两天，我觉得自己应该提前一点出发，于是又通过 New Asian 订了一张中午 12:05 的小巴票，之前的车票并没有取消。然而，我从中午一直等到下午 3 点多才终于上车。

New Asian 办公室的女士根本没有认真解决问题。在这三个小时里，她一直以“堵车”为借口敷衍我。等我上车后才发现，这个小巴的运输服务根本不是 New Asian 提供的，而是一个泰国司机的私人运输。而且车上只有我是通过 New Asian 买票上车的，其他乘客都是 2 点以后才上的车。换句话说，所谓 12:05 的班次根本不存在！

如果你不想浪费整个下午的时间，也不想影响后面的行程安排，千万不要选择 New Asian！

The whole journey from Georgetown to Koh Lipe went well. Departure at 5 am, arrival around 3pm (got some delay at the border because busy weekend in additional of the Lunar New Year, but everything has been done so I could arrive in Koh Lipe 😊 )
I really thanks the agency for the transfert. I booked directly at their office in Komtar.

However, it would have been kind and appreciated to inform when booking, that there is 2 RM insurance fee to pay directly to the driver before the border, and 220 Baht additional fee for Tarutao National Park entrance fee to be paid in additional of the ticket for the journey before to embark to the boat to Koh Lipe.
