If you plan to visit rest station 84 in Penang hill by vehicle you'll miss out on the fun but if you decides to try out the tracking route that's where you probably will find some kind of thrills along the way. Not a difficult trail to climb, you have the option of steps with a little earth track or simply marvel road using the main road uphill. Both have their pros and cons, the choice is yours.

You can either start from Moongate or the Youth park trail or from the Rifle Range trail both these routes will bring you to rest station 39. From this stopover proceed using the secondary jungle track route heading North West bound towards Penang hill, after tracking for 20-25 minutes following the existing route you will reach rest station 84 this is the off track route. Another option as I mentioned earlier is plainly walk along the main road.

Just a building beside the road to Penang hill. No views to enjoy and nothing of interest to experience. The only plus factor is the toilet facilities with pipeline water. Nothing that attracts me.

Not recommended for the adventurous thrill seekers. I tested both routes and found the off track route a little challenging then plainly walking along the main road, sapping exhaust smoke discharge from vehicles passing by.

Pick a route and go try it out for yourself to ponder.

Station 84 is a popular spot for hikers. Can reach by Jeep road from Botanical Garden, route 39 trail, Youth park No 5 and many other trail. I chose a different starting point from Taman Cantik, Hye Keat Estate. First half is easy with slight slope. Look for a red shrine and shortly after this shrine take the right turn to Station 84. Be prepared for a new thrill as this trail is like a forest trail and rather rocky. You will pass by a farm house and manage to buy durians before it was sent down to town. Met a special guest at the farm house, a black mountain squirrel in cage caught by the farmer!. Beautiful plants & flowers can be seen at the farm house, which is the hobby of the farmer. We covered a total of about 14,000 steps in 3 hours. Give a try and enjoy!! Bring own water as there are no supply at Station 84.

Well, review on 84 kinda depends on my mood when I reach it. By tar road....just pray the next turn is the #46 hut. After that hut it's smooth sailing to 84. If you take the jeep up, well of course it was a nice and fantastic ride. If from moongate #5 to #84... It depends on what kind of form I was in then.

84. It's about halfway to Penang hill and there's many a path that leads to it.
No food there but nice shaded shelter with benches to sit on to rest and a jolly clean toilet.
